We have started at the beginning. As stated earlier we needed the perfect crop that will have some very specific properties: drought tolerant, carbon sequestering, high yields, low maintenance, cold tolerant, non-invasive, organic designation potential.

Miscanthus is a warm season perennial grass that is a contender as a biomass feedstock crop due to its high yield potential. The species is a triploid and does not reproduce through seed. The crop is propagated by dividing rhizomes and replanting the bare roots. Mortality has been a problem in establishing the crop, but we have discovered a system that gets around that problem.

The rhizomes are the start of the propagation process. We have a nursery, that we baby sit. Currently, there are three varieties of Miscanthus.

Our Miscanthus rhizome products consist of Ryerse, Riverside and Harrison. Each variety has unique properties well suited to growing in the southern regions of Canada. All varieties are high quality feedstock, suitable for a wide range of products from a straw replacement to high valued pharmaceutical uses.
